  • For a taste of fascinating traditional culture visit the taro lo'i fields with one of the Lind 'ohana.
  • Along the coast towards Kipahulu the road crosses the Ohe'o Gulch, with its string of lovely cascading pools (neither seven nor sacred). Here the Pipiwai trail leads upwards through a bamboo forest to the majestic Waimoko Falls.  Visit Haleakala National Park for more info.

  • A flight above Hana's coast from our little airport, five minutes away, with Armand in a fragile microlight can be unforgettable.
  • Or, for a sensational ride around the 10,000 foot high Haleakala in a more substantial powered glider, contact Skyview Soaring. The pilot, also operating from Hana airport, is Hans: 808-248-7070. www.skyviewsoaring.com
  • The National Tropical Botanical Garden, Kahanu, is just down the road, with the most magnificent remaining Heiau (ancient Hawai'ian temple) and the world's largest collection of ulu (breadfruit) varieties in its grounds.
  • Many of our trees are still immature. But if you want to sample a wide range of exotic tropical fruit and see how it's organically grown, take a tour with Chuck and Lilly Boerner in Kipahulu.
